Merry Christmas!

Last year on this day, I was impatiently waiting for Matt to get home from work.  I was ready to hit the road to Jacksonville for Christmas, but I also had some BIG news to share with him.  I will never forget December 23rd for the rest of my life, and it makes me laugh thinking back to that day!  He kept getting stuck at work, call after call, saying he'd be home soon.  I was pacing around the house, trying to figure out how to tell him just a few weeks after we got married that I was pregnant - yikes!!  I had no clue either how he was going to react, and considering I was still in shock myself, I figured this was going to be a pretty interesting 3 hour drive to start our first Christmas together!

Luckily all panned out as perfect as could be, and here we are a year later in the same spot - waiting for Matt to get home from work again, ready to hit the road to Jacksonville, but this time with a little Chubbs in tow!  Traveling with a baby now is a much different story - our car load has at least doubled, and we have to factor in feedings and all that fun jazz, oh boy!  We're heading to Jacksonville to spend Christmas Eve with Matt's family, and then we will leave early Christmas morning to drive to College Station to see my family - a lot of driving, but the best of both worlds!

I still can't believe we have a precious 4 month old little man, and I'm so excited for his first Christmas, even though he'll have no clue what is going on.  I hope each of you has a wonderful Christmas - enjoy this special time with your family and friends, there is so much to be thankful for!

one year + 3 months + back to work!

Today Matt and I celebrate our one year anniversary!  We've had quite a year, and if you told me we'd have to get a babysitter so that we could go out and celebrate, I would have laughed in your face!  My oh my how much has changed, and we are so thankful for every second of it.  I think the first year of marriage can be hard enough, plus throwing a baby in the mix, so I think we've done pretty well for ourselves and I can't imagine going through all these crazy times without my precious hubby Matthew.

Matt's parents came in town yesterday so that we could have a night out.  We left late afternoon to go watch football, followed up by a delicious dinner at Eddy V's - mmmmmm!  We haven't gone out for a nice dinner since probably this time last year, so it was really nice to get out and not worry about rushing home to Braden.  We definitely took our time, eating appetizers, soup, salad, entrees, and dessert! I am definitely a fan and we will have to visit there again soon.  We met a few friends out afterwards to watch the end of the OU game, but by 10:45 PM this Momma was ready to head home.

Braden must have had fun with Granna and Big Daddy too, as he only woke up once around 4:00 AM, and then slept this morning until 8:30 AM - HOORAY FOR SLEEP!!  The previous week had been quite hellish, as we think he went through the 13 week growth spurt - no fun at all.  He was waking up every 45 minutes to an hour, and would sometimes take an hour to get back to sleep.  I think we are past that now, although he still is a crazy sleeper and we really don't know what to expect each night.  We celebrated his 3 month birthday a few days ago, and I feel like everyone has told me it gets so much easier now, so I'm ready to see the changes!

At 3 months he...

- weighs 16 pounds
- eats 4.5-5.5 ounces every 3-4 hours
- on a good night, only wakes up one time, but most nights it's twice
- LOVES his hands, and has really started to use them and grab toys, plus chews on them like crazy
- started day care last week and has adjusted well so far
- started to roll from his back to left side in the past few days
- has a big flat spot on the left side of his head that the doctor told us we need to work on, eeeekkkk
- is still SO happy and smiley, but will get the saddest look on his face with stick out his bottom lip if he's upset about something, it's so pathetic but cute!
- naps are still a little crazy - he always gets fussy about 1.5-2 hours after waking up, and then also gets fussy around 5 PM and 7 PM and will usually take a few little cat naps.  Day care has also started a big 2.5-3 hour nap between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, which I assume must be in a swing, because there's no way that would happen at home
- HATES his crib, and is back to his Fisher Price rocker for the time being... this seems to be our biggest battle as he wakes up all the time in his crib, (probably because he was never swaddled him after having to be on the light therapy bed for jaundice!) but sleeps like an angle in his rocker
- loves to laugh and babble back at you - I can't wait to see what his little voice will sound like!

I also had a big adjustment returning to work on November 14th!  The first few days I was very excited to get back, see my friends and old students, but that's quickly fading.  There's so much pressure on testing, paperwork, data, etc., etc., etc., and it definitely takes the fun out of teaching sometimes.  BUT, it was nice to go back right before Thanksgiving break, and now I only have 2 weeks until Christmas break, so it's been great to sort of ease back in and still have so many days off to spend with Chubbs.  Hopefully the spring semester will fly by as it usually does!

I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season so far.  Our tree is up, Home Alone has been watched 7 times already, and I'm having my fair share of Starbucks holiday drinks!  Life is good!
